The right height for electrical sockets and switches

The current building regulations (Not including Scotland) state that sockets and switches in domestic homes should be easily accessible to people that have limited reach (e.g. wheelchair users). So they can use them with ease.

The recommended socket height is no lower than 450mm from the floor (not including skirting board), for switches, Telephone sockets, doorbells and Television points, No higher than 1200mm from the floor.

If the house is designed for a person who has limited reach then these rules don't apply in kitchens and garages.
