The right height for electrical
sockets and switches
The current building regulations (Not including
Scotland) state that sockets and switches
in domestic homes should be easily accessible
to people that have limited reach (e.g.
wheelchair users). So they can use them
The recommended socket height is no lower
than 450mm from the floor (not including
skirting board), for switches, Telephone
sockets, doorbells and Television points,
No higher than 1200mm from the floor.
If the house is designed for a person who
has limited reach then these rules don't
apply in kitchens and garages.
